PLEASE NOTE:
If you already have a First Aid certificate before starting this course, it must still have at least 12 months left on it on the day the course begins.
Addtionally you will need to complete the Online ACT Awareness [Blue] and Act Security [Orange] available on E-Learning | ProtectUK before attending the course.

QUALIFICATION DETAILS

The SIA Refresher is a streamlined, current qualification for security practioners working across the UK private security sector.

Designed and informed by real operational experience, it provides practical, relevant training aligned with current and emerging threats.

 

Successful completion confirms renewed competence for SIA licence renewal and recognised throughout the UK private security industry.

 

Ongoing professional development is recommended in line with organisational policy and the SIA renewal cycle.

Once you’ve completed the relevant Refresher eBook, please email it to admin@pbagroup.com, together with copies of your most recent First Aid,  ACT Awareness e-Learning and ACT Security e-Learning certificates available from E-Learning | ProtectUK  so we are able to confirm your place on the next available practical assessment date.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This qualification is intended for:

  • Security professionals needing an up-to-date refresher on search procedures (people, vehicles, venues) and physical intervention skills.

  • Security professionals returning to work after a break who must demonstrate current competence against SIA requirements.

  • Teams maintaining organisational compliance, due diligence and insurance obligations.

 

It is particularly useful for practitioners seeking a concise, standards-aligned update that evidence competence in search protocols, lawful practice, and non-aggressive physical intervention.

OVERVIEW

This course prepares learners to operate safely, lawfully, and professionally while undertaking their duties. Training focuses on risk management, legal compliance, search methodology, and hands-on physical intervention.

 

Content is mapped to current SIA licence-linked requirements and delivered under QNUK quality assurance.

Core modules include:

  • SIA & Legal Framework Refresher (use of force, arrest, reporting, professional standards)

  • Threat & Risk Update (situational awareness, dynamic risk assessment, decision-making)

  • Search Protocols (people, bags, vehicles, venues; policy, safety, and evidence handling)

  • Venue & Route Security (zones, cordons, screening points, sanitisation and briefing)

  • Communications & Teamwork (command, handovers, incident reporting, documentation)

  • Physical Intervention – SIA Refresher

    • Non-pain-compliant protective skills

    • Protective positioning, separation, and extraction to safety

    • Medical and legal considerations; post-incident reporting

  • Professional Conduct & Welfare (ethical practice, equality, trauma awareness)

 

The programme prioritises legality, proportionality, and safeguarding, supported by practical, scenario-based learning aligned to modern operational demands.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Learners are assessed through a combination of:

  • Externally set knowledge tests – multiple-choice questions covering law, policy, and operational knowledge (including searches).

  • Observed practical assessments – demonstration of physical intervention skills in structured scenarios.

  • Instructor questioning / professional discussion – to confirm understanding and decision-making where required.

CERTIFICATION

On successful completion, QNUK will notify the SIA directly that you have met the required training, enabling you to renew your licence without unnecessary delay.
