QUALIFICATION DETAILS

The QNUK Level 3 Award for Media Safety Advisor (RQF) is a dynamic qualification developed to address the specific challenges faced in high-risk operational environments.

 

Drawing from real-world experience in conflict zones, natural disasters, civil unrest, and mass gatherings, the course delivers practical and relevant training tailored to today’s evolving threats.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This qualification is designed for:

  • Close Protection Operatives (CPOs) working in high-risk or hostile environments

  • Security personnel supporting journalists, broadcasters, or NGO field teams

  • Individuals preparing for deployment to regions affected by conflict, civil unrest, or natural disaster

  • Professionals seeking to upskill in media-specific risk management and safety procedures

 

It is particularly valuable for those wishing to enhance their capability in supporting media operations while remaining compliant with international safety standards.

OVERVIEW

The course equips learners with the tools and mindset necessary to operate safely and effectively in complex environments while supporting media professionals. The training focuses on practical safety management, risk mitigation, and situational awareness, all within the context of media field operations.

  • Planning and Self-Sufficiency

  • Vehicle and Travel Safety

  • Personal Security

  • Operating in Riots and Demonstrations

  • Press and Accountability

  • Engagement with Military and Security Forces

  • Responding to Terrorist Incidents and Active Shooter Scenarios

  • De-escalation Strategies and Asset Protection

 

The course also places a strong emphasis on communication, ethical considerations, and team dynamics—critical for maintaining trust and professionalism when working with media clients.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Learners are assessed through a combination of:

  • Practical Demonstrations – Evaluating applied skills in simulated scenarios

  • Written Assessments – Short-answer and multiple-choice questions to test theoretical understanding

  • Coursework Submissions – Assignments to be completed within ten days of course completion, including risk assessments, route planning exercises, and briefing documents

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion of all components, learners will receive the QNUK Level 3 Award in Media Safety Advisor (RQF)

This qualification is recognised throughout the UK and internationally as a professional standard for operatives working in the media safety and close protection sectors. Certification is valid indefinitely, though refresher training is recommended every 3–5 years or as operational needs evolve.
